Microsoft Selects Chartered for Xbox 360 CPU Production

Chartered will manufacture Microsoft’s Xbox 360 CPU using 65nm SOI technology from IBM. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2007. The agreement follows Chartered's successful production of the 90nm SOI CPU for the launch of the Xbox 360 console, through an agreement with IBM.

Chartered Licenses 90nm SOI technology from IBM

With the licensing agreement, Chartered expands its reach to markets for SOI technology, such as consumer, multi-media, communications, automotive and industrial applications. The SOI technology is production-proven in high-volume applications such as games and enterprise information solutions, and has demonstrated extremely low defect density. In 2004, under an outsourcing agreement with IBM, Chartered implemented the IBM 90nm SOI technology in our Singapore-based Fab 7 to manufacture CPU products for Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console.

Catena IP Silicon Proven on Chartered 0.13-micron RF CMOS

The Catena group (Catena Microelectronics BV, Catena Radio Design BV and Catena Wireless Electronics AB) has silicon validated its RF system application IP on Chartered’s 0.13-micron process. The power amplifier, low-noise amplifier and an on-chip antenna match network for 2.45GHz and 900MHz were integrated on Chartered’s 0.13-micron RF CMOS process. The chip utilizes both active and passive components in RF CMOS such as RF MOS, MIM capacitors and inductors. The power management functions were also integrated on the chip. This reference design can be integrated into a system on a chip for applications such as 802.11x, Bluetooth and GSM/UMTS.
