San Jose, CA -- November 7, 1996 -- As part of its strategy to build a global market presence, Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced the appointment of a new executive and the immediate opening of new regional headquarters in Europe.

Walter Prochaska has joined Chartered as vice president of sales for Europe. Mr. Prochaska, who is based near Munich in Germering, Germany, will focus on extending Chartered’s marketing focus to those companies seeking leading-edge, deep-submicron foundry support. Mr. Prochaska will also oversee all sales and customer service activities in Europe.

An industry veteran with more than 25 years’ experience in high technology, Mr. Prochaska has held numerous sales and marketing positions in the United States and Europe. Most recently he was a sales director for IBM Microelectronics. He has held management positions at several other companies, including Fairchild Semiconductor and Texas Instruments. Mr. Prochaska holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Engineering Academy in Koblenz, Germany.

Mr. Prochaska will report to Ray Hawkins, senior vice president of worldwide marketing and sales.
