Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Adds Two Key
Executives In Manufacturing and Marketing
Senior Appointments Mark Organizational
Transition Under New CEO, Barry Waite
SINGAPORE -- December 2, 1998 --
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced the addition of two new
executives to senior management posts. John Docherty steps into the new
position of senior vice president of manufacturing operations, and Kevin Meyer
joins the company as vice president of worldwide marketing. Both men will
reside in Singapore and be based at company headquarters there.
These appointments come as part of the
company’s organizational transition under the leadership of president and CEO,
Barry Waite, who joined Chartered last May.

John Docherty joins the company in the new
role of senior vice president, manufacturing operations. With the creation of
this position, all foundry operations will now be joined under Mr. Docherty’s
leadership. He will oversee manufacturing strategy, day-to-day foundry
operations, and continuous improvement activities. He will also lead the
manufacturing Team’s drive toward enhanced quality, productivity, yield, cost,
and delivery. Mr. Docherty will also serve in a key role as member of the
company’s policy committee.
An industry veteran with more than 23 years’
experience, Mr. Docherty has worked for both National Semiconductor
Corporation and Motorola. Most recently with Motorola, Mr. Docherty was vice
president and general manager overseeing four wafer manufacturing facilities
in the United States, Scotland and France. He was also responsible for the
operations of a Motorola test-and-assembly facility.
Mr. Docherty holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in applied physics and electronics from HNC Engineering Napier
University in the United Kingdom and a Master of Business Administration from
Strathclyde University in Scotland.
Kevin Meyer comes to Chartered as vice
president of worldwide marketing. Mr. Meyer will formulate and lead
Chartered’s worldwide marketing strategy while working with regional business
and sales teams. He is responsible for strategic and tactical marketing
activities, marketing intelligence, and marketing communications. He will also
direct the company’s marketing groups located in Asia, Europe and North
America. Mr. Meyer reports to Rob Baxter, senior vice president, business
operations.
Mr. Meyer joins Chartered with more than 15
years’ experience in the semiconductor industry. His prior roles include
positions in applications engineering and various management responsibilities
in engineering, sales, marketing, regional operations, and business and
alliance development.
Prior to joining Chartered, Mr.
Meyer was vice president and director of market development and alliances for
the semiconductor products sector at Motorola. In that position he was
responsible for directing Motorola’s communications and computing systems
group’s strategic initiatives in the Pacific Rim
market.
Mr. Meyer holds degrees in business
administration, computer science, and industrial technology from California
State University, Chico.
Mr. Meyer’s position was formerly held by
Brian Klene, who now holds the position of vice president, strategic
development at Chartered. Mr. Klene reports to Chartered president, Barry
Waite.
Members of the executive team reporting to Mr.
Waite now include Chia Song Hwee, chief financial officer; Rob Baxter, senior
vice president of business operations; John Docherty, senior vice president of
manufacturing operations; Lau Chi-Kwan, vice president of quality, reliability
assurance; John Martin, vice president of technology development; Brian Klene,
vice president of strategic development; Justin Lim, vice president of
information technology; and Tan Seng Chai, director of human
resources.
