Fairchild Semiconductor and Chartered Semiconductor
Manufacturing Forge Foundry Relationship for EEPROM Supply
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, February 18, 1998
SANTA CLARA, CALIF. AND MILPITAS, CALIF -- Fairchild Semiconductor, a
leading supplier of multi-market standard semiconductor products, and
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing, a world-leading independent wafer
foundry, have agreed that Chartered will manufacture EEPROM products based on
Fairchild's advanced EEPROM process. Fairchild has completed the transfer of
its EEPROM technology to Chartered, and Chartered has already returned test
runs of silicon to Fairchild, with high yields.
The EEPROM wafers will be produced by Chartered at its integrated circuit
manufacturing campus in Singapore and will augment existing production from
Fairchild's Salt Lake City, UT, fabrication facility.
"We are very pleased to be working with Chartered," said Stephen Hamilton,
vice president of Fairchild Semiconductor Memory Products Group. "They have a
long history and great reputation for producing the highest quality product.
Our strategic relationship is a natural extension of our commitment to service
this high-growth market."
Tom Endicott, Chartered North America vice president of sales and
marketing, said, "Through collaborative efforts like this one, we can help our
customers lead in their respective markets by delivering quality products and
manufacturing capacity when they need it."
"For Fairchild, customer satisfaction means supporting our customers' needs
now and long into the future," Jerry Baker, executive vice president and
general manager, Fairchild Semiconductor, stated. "This is the second foundry
agreement we have completed in less than a year and will assure us adequate
capacity to support our customers' rapidly growing needs.
