Pivotal Technologies and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Announce Joint Marketing Agreement to Provide Analog and Mixed-Signal Silicon IP

Pivotal's silicon-proven IP to be made available for Chartered's 0.25-,
0.35-, and 0.5-micron processes

SAN FRANCISCO Calif., - June 15, 1998 - Today at the Design Automation Conference, Pivotal Technologies, LLC and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing announced that they have signed a joint marketing agreement that allows the two companies to co-market analog and mixed-signal IP developed by Pivotal for Chartered foundry processes. Designs for several Chartered customers are currently in progress and a number of test chips are scheduled for tape-out.

Pivotal will provide broad support to Chartered customers with its OptiMix(tm) line of silicon-ready analog and mixed-signal components. These are building blocks such as, Phase Lock Loops (PLLs), A/D and D/A Converters, Crystal Oscillators, Charge Pumps, and many other analog interface support elements suitable for System-on-a-Chip designs.

Through partnerships with specialized IP providers like Pivotal, our customers can access silicon-proven analog and mixed-signal IP that is optimized to Chartered's many process technologies," said Ajay Lalwani, strategic marketing manager at Chartered. "This partnership will allow customers to increase their likelihood of first-pass silicon success, and help them realize quicker time-to-market."

Each of Pivotal's OptiMix(tm) components is silicon-proven in customer designs or on test chips, which makes them a low risk solution. Pivotal's analog components are compatible with Chartered's digital processes and do not require any extra manufacturing steps or added costs. Pivotal provides support for industry leading back-end tools allowing designers to easily integrate the components into their designs.

We have a clear focus and mission to provide superior analog and mixed-signal IP components for system-on-a-chip designs" affirms Stephen Petilli, President of Pivotal Technologies. "This is the beginning of an exciting relationship with Chartered. They are on an impressive growth path, and have very aggressive technology. The combination of our products with their foundry services provides significant value to the industry."
