Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Creates
Parternership Network for 0.18-Micron Systems-on-Silicon Development
Seamless Design Environment Closes the Gap
Between Product Development and Manufacturing
Phases
MILPITAS, Calif., -- March 1, 1999 --
Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced the formation of a
partnership network that will develop a seamless design environment required
for the manufacture of integrated circuits utilizing Chartered’s 0.18-micron
process technologies. The qualified design environment allows customers to
choose any qualified Chartered partner’s offering and have the benefit of a
seamless interface to Chartered’s 0.18-micron manufacturing
process.
Under separate memorandums of understanding,
Chartered is working with four leaders in the electronic design automation
(EDA) and intellectual property (IP) industries -- Artisan Components, Inc.,
Avant! Corporation, Cadence Design Systems, and Synopsys, Inc. -- to provide
customers with a seamless design environment offering three key elements.
First, Chartered will work with Avant!, Cadence, and Synopsys to validate
the accuracy of their tools and 0.18-micron technology files on Chartered
silicon. Next, Chartered will validate the seamless integration of Artisan’s
and Avant!’s libraries within their respective customers’ preferred design
flows. Chartered will do this using the tools offered by Avant!, Cadence and
Synopsys. Third, Chartered will verify the libraries in silicon via its test
chip program. The result will be a fully integrated and verified set of
design rules, models, tools, libraries and process technology.
Commenting on the announcement, Ana Hunter,
vice president of worldwide EDA services at Chartered, said, "These
relationships mark a new phase in Chartered’s EDA and IP program. Building
on our strategy of partnership, we offer our customers the benefits of close
collaboration with EDA and IP providers. At a practical level, we are
verifying that our EDA and IP partners’ offerings are qualified in the
design environment under which our customers design their systems on
silicon.
"Through close collaboration with industry
leaders such as these, Chartered’s customers gain the highest degree of
confidence that their designs rest on a reliable foundation. With both
libraries and tools matched to each other and to our advanced 0.18-micron
process, our customers maximize the efficiency of their next-generation
designs. Further, these alliances highlight Chartered’s strategy of
partnering with key industry players to provide customers with fast access
to deep submicron manufacturing." Chartered expects to begin
accepting customer prototypes for manufacturing in the first quarter of the
year 2000.
