SINGAPORE -- July 8, 1999 -- Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has announced the appointment of Bruno Guilmart as president, Asia-Pacific and Japan region. Mr. Guilmart is responsible for all sales and business operations in the region, which includes Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Australia, Japan and Israel. He is based at the company's headquarters in Singapore and reports to Rob Baxter, senior vice president of business operations.

"Asia's potential as a dynamic force in the electronics industry still remains greatly under-utilized," said Rob Baxter. "Bruno's experience in the region, along with his ability to help customers bring systems solutions to market, are the right combination of skills to serve the diverse needs of this vibrant geographical market."

Mr. Guilmart joins Chartered with more than 17 years of experience in semiconductor engineering, marketing and business development. From 1996 until joining Chartered, he was employed by Cadence Design systems. His most recent position there was as vice president, professional services for that company's Asia-Pacific region.

From 1989 until 1996, Mr. Guilmart was executive director - Northeast Asia sales at Temic Semiconductors' Daimler-Benz group located in Hong Kong. From 1982 until 1989, he held engineering and business development positions at Hewlett-Packard Company in Europe, USA and Asia.

Mr. Guilmart holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and a Master's degree in electronics and business management from Paris XI Institute of Technology, France.
