Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Aggregate
Shares Purchased By Underwriters

SINGAPORE -- May 18, 2000 -- Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: CHARTERED)has announced that the underwriters of its global public offering of 135,100,000 ordinary shares, directly or in the form of American Depository Shares (ADSs), have exercised their option to purchase 20,265,000 additional ordinary shares, directly or in the form of ADSs, to cover over-allotments. The underwriters are exercising the option with respect to 11,700,000 shares from Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. and 8,565,000 shares from Singapore Technologies Semiconductors Pte. Ltd.
