BROADCOM AWARDS CHARTERED "FOUNDRY OF THE YEAR 2000"

Fabless pioneer cites Chartered for excellence, quality in manufacturing;
Reinforces communications-smart strategy of leading foundry

MILPITAS, Calif. - FEBRUARY 26, 2001 - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (NASDAQ: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world's top three silicon foundries, has been named Foundry Supplier of the Year 2000 by Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), the leading provider of integrated circuits enabling broadband communications. Broadcom selected Chartered for its annual award based on supplier excellence in the areas of technology, capacity, customer support, quality and pricing.

The award, which follows a multi-year agreement that the two companies signed in September 2000, underscores Chartered's focus on the communications segment of the semiconductor market. Chartered pioneered a "communications-smart" development strategy that provides advanced silicon manufacturing solutions for a broad range of communications products, including cable set-top boxes, cable modems, high-speed networks, and satellite communications - all integral to Broadcom's business strategy.

"Broadcom chose Chartered for this award in recognition of a successful year of cooperation and collaboration. Chartered has a focused, flexible approach to ensuring the success of its customers, and this is very important to high-growth companies like ours that target fast-moving market opportunities," said Vahid Manian, Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Broadcom. "Broadcom has been working with Chartered since 1996 and we count on their customer-oriented business philosophy and differentiated manufacturing strategies to help us bring leading-edge semiconductor solutions to market."

"Broadcom is a successful and fast-growing company that truly represents the strength and speed of the fabless model. We believe the value Chartered brings companies like Broadcom is a comprehensive understanding of their requirements and our demonstrated ability to rapidly mobilize resources and deliver flexible services and solutions," said Mike Rekuc, president of the Americas for Chartered. "This award is a great honor for Chartered, and another validation of our commitment to servicing customers with unprecedented levels of cooperation, efficiency and innovation."

Broadcom selects its Foundry Supplier of the Year after an internal review of its foundry partners by the Broadcom Supplier Rated Program. The recognition from Broadcom is the latest in a series of quality awards Chartered received from customers in the past several months, including Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX) and Exar Corporation (NASDAQ: EXAR). The first company to be awarded best supplier status by Flextronics, Chartered was recognized for its outstanding performance in delivering excellent customer service and an award-winning formula for meeting lead-time and quality requirements. Chartered was also named Fiscal 2000 supplier of the year in July by Exar for achieving the highest ratings in quality, reliability, customer service, on-time delivery, and pricing.
