CHARTERED
STRENGTHENS LEADERSHIP OF EDA, MARKETING TEAMS
WITH PROMOTION OF MICHAEL BUEHLER-GARCIA
MILPITAS, Calif. - April 4, 2001 - Chartered Semiconductor
Manufacturing (NASDAQ: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered),
one of the world's top three silicon foundries, today
announced the promotion of Michael Buehler-Garcia to
vice president of worldwide EDA and marketing.
In his new role, Buehler-Garcia will oversee Chartered's
worldwide EDA strategies and consulting services, and
has direct responsibility for Chartered's technical,
strategic, and corporate marketing teams. He jointly
directs Chartered's global business development efforts
with Kevin Meyer, vice president of worldwide business
development, and reports directly to Rob Baxter, senior
vice president of business operations. Buehler-Garcia,
who is based in the Company's Milpitas office, previously
served as director of marketing for the Americas.
"Our EDA activities are a integral part of our growth
potential. Merging that organization with our strategic
marketing team and having continued strong leadership
in these areas are essential to the successful execution
of our strategies," said Baxter. "Michael's experience
makes him a valuable resource to Chartered and our customers.
He will drive Chartered to partner with the right companies,
ensuring that our solutions offer the flexibility and
openness that are critical to the success of the foundry
model."
Buehler-Garcia draws from a strong background in EDA,
design, and marketing, with nearly 20 years of experience.
Prior to joining Chartered in June 1999, he was group
director of strategic relationship marketing at Cadence
Design Systems, guiding the company's strategic relationships
in the semiconductor, EDA, foundry, and hardware market
segments. Buehler-Garcia also spent 14 years at Motorola,
where he held various positions in the space and technology
group and semiconductor sector, culminating in his role
as marketing manager for the company's ASIC division.
"Michael has consistently demonstrated a true knack
for developing alliances and promoting openness and
interoperability," said Andy Graham, president and CEO
of Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2), an industry
organization that provides a forum for industry leaders
to collaborate on the mounting challenges that they
face. "Chartered is well-served by having someone of
Michael's caliber focused on its key alliances, as well
as developing and executing the company's EDA and marketing
strategies."
