CHARTERED RECOGNIZES TOP SUPPLIERS DURING ANNUAL EVENT

SINGAPORE - February 22, 2002 - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world's top three silicon foundries, today honored several semiconductor manufacturing equipment, materials and services suppliers for their efforts in 2001. The ceremony took place during Chartered's annual Supplier Day, a process which began four years ago to foster closer collaboration and continuity between Chartered and its suppliers toward achieving their common goal of excellence in delivery of quality products and services to customers. More than 300 people, representing approximately 200 companies, attended this year's event, entitled, "Continuous Improvement - Setting the Industry Benchmark."

Chartered presented its Gold award for material suppliers to Tosoh SMD Singapore Pte. Ltd. The Silver and Bronze awards were given to Tokuyama Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. and Komatsu Electronic Metals Co. Ltd., respectively. Best overall supplier awards went to LAM Research Singapore Pte. Ltd. for its equipment support and to PeopleSoft Asia Pte. Ltd. for its information technology support. In addition, ASM Lithography and Tosoh SMD Singapore Pte. Ltd. were recognized as the most improved suppliers. Chartered based its evaluations on several criteria, including quality, service, innovation, delivery and cost.

"As the semiconductor market faced the most challenging environment in its history in 2001, Chartered had to react swiftly to manage the market dynamics and we benefited from our long-term, collaborative relationships with our network of strong suppliers," said John Docherty, senior vice president, manufacturing operations at Chartered. "Moving forward, Chartered remains committed to working closely with our partners to deliver the level of excellence that has enabled us to be a leading silicon foundry. We believe industry benchmarking will help us understand what drives the desired performance and set plans to achieve our goals."
