CHARTERED
AND ARTISAN COMPONENTS ANNOUNCE AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE SUITE OF 0.13-MICRON LIBRARIES
FREE TO CUSTOMERS
Agreement Also Boosts Current 0.18-Micron Library
Products With Addition of New I/O Library and Enhancements to Existing Products
SUNNYVALE and MILPITAS, Calif., February 25, 2002 - Artisan Components, Inc.,
(Nasdaq: ARTI), a leading provider of semiconductor intellectual property (IP)
and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: CHARTERED),
one of the world's top three silicon foundries, today announced an agreement to
provide Artisan's 0.13-micron library products for Chartered's advanced process
technology to be licensed free-of-charge to IC designers. The agreement also boosts
the current product offering for Chartered's 0.18-micron process with the delivery
of a new I/O library with an expanded set of cells. "As chip design gets
more complex and time-to-market windows continue to shrink, designers need increasing
flexibility and earlier access to libraries to meet the challenges," said Michael
Buehler-Garcia, vice president of business development and worldwide marketing
at Chartered. "Chartered is committed to providing complete product solutions
for leading-edge technologies. Chartered's relationship with Artisan underscores
this commitment, and having started working together at 0.25-micron, we are now
productizing and delivering at 0.18- and 0.13-micron."
"As a top tier silicon
foundry, Chartered's commitment to providing customers access to leading-edge
capacity meshes well with Artisan's strategy and we are pleased to be able to
offer Artisan's industry standard library in Chartered's 0.13-micron process,"
said Mark Templeton, Artisan's president and chief executive officer. "In addition,
the enhancements to our libraries in Chartered's 0.18-micron process offer customers
an additional level of flexibility to access a proven, low-cost, time-to-market
solution."
Product Specifications Under terms of the agreement,
Artisan will develop a suite of libraries optimized for high-speed and density.
The 0.13-micron products include generators for single-and dual-port SRAM, two-port
register files, diffusion programmable ROM and Artisan's most advanced version
of its SAGE-X Standard Cell library with expanded synthesis optimized arithmetic
cell set and enhanced power management support. A complete set of I/O cells in
both in-line and staggered configurations will also be developed. In addition,
0.18-micron memory generators and standard cell libraries will be updated to Chartered's
latest design rules and electrical models. The new 0.18-micron release will include
a new, complete set of I/O cells in both in-line and staggered configurations
and will support Artisan's most current EDA package with enhanced views and models
of the industry's leading design tools.
Product Availability Artisan
SAGE-X Standard Cell library for Chartered's 0.13-micron process will be available
in first quarter 2002, followed by memory generators and I/O libraries in second
quarter 2002. Artisan's enhanced memory generators and SAGE-X Standard Cell libraries
for Chartered's 0.18-micron products will be available in first quarter 2002 followed
by the I/O libraries in second quarter 2002. Under Artisan's Foundry Library Program,
these library products can be downloaded free-of-charge from Artisan's web site
at http://www.artisan.com. Chartered library users should contact Artisan directly
for more information via e-mail at chartered_lib@artisan.com or via telephone
