CHARTERED
EXPANDS OPEN LIBRARY PROGRAM WITH FREE ACCESS TO AVANT!'S LIBRA-VISA SUITE FOR
OPTIMIZED CHIP DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING FLOW
No charge library access
facilitates more design exploration, tightly couples leading design and manufacturing
processes; 0.35-micron support boosts companies' China strategies
MILPITAS and FREMONT, Calif. - February 25, 2002 - Chartered Semiconductor
Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world's top three
silicon foundries, and Avant! Corporation (Nasdaq: AVNT), a leading supplier of
libraries and design automation tools, today announced the immediate availability
of free access to libraries from Avant!'s Libra-Visa offering for use with Chartered's
manufacturing processes. The offer, which expands Chartered's open library program,
provides no cost library support optimized for Chartered's processes, with one
year of free maintenance support from Avant!. The program initially offers designers
the ability to acquire at no cost complete Avant! libraries for Chartered's 0.35,
0.25 and 0.18-micron processes. All of these libraries have been silicon proven
with multiple customer designs already in production. The announcement
follows an agreement by the two companies that will see Chartered use Avant!'s
SinglePass-SoC™ design solution as its reference flow for 0.13-micron technology
and below.
The 0.35-micron libraries, which previously were priced at a
starting cost of $70,000, consist of production-proven standard cells, I/Os and
memory compilers. They are optimized for superior performance within the Avant!
design tool flow, including place-and-route and physical verification, while also
supporting other popular place & route, synthesis and simulation tools.
The
offer provides designers with unlimited access and use of the libraries. Avant!
charges a one-time, minimal fee at the time a design is released to Chartered
for wafer processing, and access to the libraries will be subject to Avant!'s
standard licensing terms and conditions.
"Chartered continues to provide
the foundry industry with innovative ways for designers to have access to complete
and flexible solutions for their design challenges. This program not only makes
both our companies' technology more accessible, it facilitates easier and more
efficient design exploration, as well as freedom of choice," said Michael Buehler-Garcia,
vice president of business development and worldwide marketing at Chartered. "We
are especially excited about the impact this program will have in emerging markets
such as China where cost issues and support of processes that are not considered
'mainstream' in other parts of the world - such as 0.35 micron - are both critical
concerns."
The libraries are robust offerings, providing designers with
a range of benefits, including 350+ standard cells optimized for density and performance
in Chartered's processes and efficient run times in popular EDA tools, 150+ I/O
cells offered in both in-line and staggered-pad configurations, and a wide variety
of DFT-proven and easy-to-use memory compiler options for SRAM and ROM.
"The
continuing business relationship between Chartered and Avant! is of great benefit
to our mutual customers. It allows development of creative programs that serve
our customers and underscore our commitment to Chartered as a primary foundry
partner. We believe that our Libra-Visa library technology, our Milkyway -based,
SinglePass-SoC solution, and Chartered's foundry service allow the most rapid
creation of advanced silicon products," said Dr. Paul Lo, president of Avant!
Corporation.
The free Chartered library program is effective immediately.
