FURTHER STRENGTHENS FOCUS ON CUSTOMER AND MANUFACTURING
EXCELLENCE WITH THREE EXECUTIVE APPOINTMENTS
SINGAPORE
- August 21, 2002 - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing
(Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: CHARTERED), one of the world's
top three silicon foundries, today announced three executive
appointments as part of its dedicated effort to provide
world-class services and support to its customers. The appointments
include Bruno Guilmart as senior vice president of worldwide
sales and marketing, Kay Chai "KC" Ang as senior
vice president of fab operations, and Tang Yong "TY"
Ang as vice president of quality, reliability assurance
and support operations. The three executives report directly
to Chia Song Hwee, president & CEO of Chartered.

proven executives like Bruno, KC and TY demonstrates our

three executives, Chartered will have even stronger focus

flexibility, higher probability of first-time silicon success,
and improved time to market," said Chia.
In order to further sharpen Chartered's focus on customer
needs and trends within key market segments, Guilmart has
been promoted to the newly created position of senior vice
president of worldwide sales and marketing. With this appointment,
all customer services and support activities, including
EDA, IP and design support, will also be under his leadership.
Guilmart most recently served as president of Chartered's
Asia Pacific and Japan regions. He has more than 20 years
of experience in engineering, business development, and
sales and marketing, having previously worked at Cadence
Design Systems, Temic Semiconductor, and Hewlett Packard.
In his role as senior vice president of fab operations,
KC Ang will be responsible for manufacturing strategy and
operational excellence across all of Chartered's fabs. He
will lead Chartered's focus on cost, yield and cycle time.
KC Ang returns to Chartered after spending the past four
years at Silterra, where he was responsible for fab operations.
Prior to that, he spent nine years at Chartered with responsibilities
for leading the initial conception, development and ramp
up of Chartered's Fab 2 and Fab 3.
TY Ang is responsible for quality, reliability assurance
and support operations, including facilities and supply
management. TY Ang returns to Chartered after spending 15
months as president of Ellipsiz, a provider of semiconductor
engineering and manufacturing services. Prior to that, TY
Ang spent seven years in a variety of leadership positions
at Chartered, including facilities director, vice president
of operations in Fab 1, general manager of Silicon Manufacturing
Partners (SMP or Fab 5), and general manager of Chartered
Silicon Partners (CSP or Fab 6). He has also held various
positions with AT&T, Hitachi, and Texas Instruments.
