Collaborative relationship, robust technology platform, reliable foundry capacity support enable emerging Chinese fabless company growth within China and internationally

SINGAPORE and SHANGHAI - June 16, 2004 - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world's top three dedicated foundries, has been named "Excellent Wafer Supplier" by Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics Company Limited, one of the leading application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) design and system-integration companies based in China and China's first fabless company to be listed on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) of the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (GEM Stock Code: 08102).

The award recognizes the role Chartered played incubating Fudan Microelectronics' growth since 1997 from an IC research laboratory at Fudan University into a leading system-integration player for consumer and industrial applications in China and overseas markets. Partnering with Chartered as its major foundry supplier, Fudan Microelectronics develops and manufactures smart card and digital power meter products utilizing Chartered's EEPROM and analog processes, as well as value-added solutions available through Chartered's ecosystem of pre-qualified design and backend test and packaging partners.
