CHARTERED NAMED BEST-IN-CLASS SUPPLIER BY AGERE SYSTEMS
Foundry leader recognized for cycle time reduction and yield improvement
MILPITAS, Calif. - December 3, 2004 - Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Nasdaq: CHRT and SGX-ST: Chartered), one of the world's top three dedicated semiconductor foundries, has received a 2004 Best-in-Class Supplier award from Agere Systems (NYSE: AGR.A, AGR.B). Chartered, one of only three Agere suppliers to receive such an award, was honored in the manufacturing category for its achievements in cycle time reduction, e-business initiative cooperation, and yield improvement. The award builds on the Strategic Supplier designation Chartered received in 2003 from Agere.
Chartered and Agere have a long-standing relationship that has seen the two companies work together on a variety of manufacturing advances and achievements. In 2004, Chartered supplied digital and analog silicon across multiple technology nodes for Agere's chip set products.
"Chartered is honored to be named Best-in-Class Supplier, a recognition rooted in our long, multi-faceted relationship with Agere Systems. We believe this award reflects the value Chartered brings companies like Agere, offering value-added services and flexible solutions to meet our customers' needs. Being honored in such a way by a customer is a testament to our commitment to customer service and helping customers win in today's competitive market," said Dr. Arthur Kuo, president of the Americas Region for Chartered.
"Chartered set itself above others in its category," said Tom Linton, Agere Systems Chief Procurement Officer. "The selection of this year's Best-in-Class winners demonstrates the full stream view Agere has of its supply chain, and the Strategic Supplier Awards are Agere's way of publicly recognizing outstanding performance among the companies that contribute to our ongoing success and enhance our customer service."
