Chartered Extends Joint Development with IBM to 32nm

Chartered has expanded its joint-technology development with IBM to 32nm bulk CMOS technology. The announcement extends the multi-year agreement that the two companies first signed in November 2002. Upon completion of the joint development, Chartered and IBM will have created a CMOS technology platform spanning 90nm, 65nm, 45nm and 32nm logic processes. As with previous nodes, the 32nm joint development will be conducted in IBM’s 300mm fab in East Fishkill, New York.

Freescale Joins Joint Development at 45nm

Freescale has joined the Common Platform technology alliance to jointly develop CMOS and silicon-on-insulator technologies at 45nm. The collaboration also includes design enablement transitioning at 45nm. Under the agreement, Freescale will have access to the combined manufacturing capacity of the Common Platform partners Chartered, IBM and Samsung. Freescale is the first technology development partner in the Common Platform to participate in both low-power and high-performance technology research and development.

Design Enablement

Magma Announces Low-Power Reference Flow for 65nm Common Platform

Magma® Design Automation Inc. has made available an advanced low-power reference flow for the 65nm low-power process offered on the Common Platform by Chartered, IBM and Samsung. The Magma flow features Blast PowerTM, Blast Fusion®, Blast CreateTM and Blast RailTM NX, and is part of Magma's design enablement kit for the Common Platform 65nm process. The flow also includes a test design that exercises all the low-power features, including automatic de-cap insertion, dynamic IR drop and MTCMOS switches insertion. The RTL-to-GDSII scripts and methodology guide make up the rest of the kit, which is qualified by the Common Platform and are now available.
